2005
In 2005, Hurricane Stan devastated the Mexican coast, leaving fishing communities with destroyed regions and without the means to sustain themselves. The impact on these communities moved us, and we responded by contributing to the restoration of their way of life.
2006 - 2009
In 2006, the Vigas Foundation was established to help communities recover from the devastation of Hurricane Stan. Among the alternatives that emerged, Agua Blanca was born, built on the vision of revitalizing community work with a sustainable approach, grounded in their aquaculture roots.
2011 - 2012:
Our story began in Oaxaca, Mexico, where we launched our first pilot farm. We ventured into multi-trophic aquaculture, raising tilapia and shrimp while innovating nutrient recycling to improve feed conversion rates.
2015:
We welcomed oceanographer and biofloc specialist Andre Freitas. His expertise helped us lay the ground for our non-recirculating water system, which would later evolve into the one of the Shrimpbox. He also helped us better understand the optimal conditions for shrimp farming, enabling us to replicate them effectively.
2016:
We became the first shrimp farm in America to embrace biofloc technology at a commercial level and the first to apply it to aquaculture practices.
2017:
With the mission to conquer the U.S. market, Agua Blanca emerged as a brand. We made our established debut at the Seafood Expo North America 2017.
2021:
We introduced the Shrimpbox prototypes, and from then on, everything changed for shrimp farming. These containers paved the way for us to stand out in the foodtech, aquaculture, and sustainable model industries.
2022:
In 2022, we tested the Shrimpbox under the harsh conditions of winter and succeeded. By spring, we proudly inaugurated our first Shrimpbox Farm in the heart of Indianapolis, delivering the freshest and highest quality shrimp to the U.S. market.
2023
By July 2023, we began expanding beyond Indianapolis, supplying chefs and restaurants in Chicago, New York, and D.C. Since then, we’ve continued to grow our market presence. Follow us and stay tuned as this story unfolds…
